Screening: From Bella Coola to Berlin

March 5, 2009 at 4:26 pm (film)

Barbara Hager’s From Bella Coola to Berlin will be showing at Eric Martin Pavilion‘s Movie Monday on March 9, 6:30pm, notes Victoria News’ Patrick Blennerhassett:

From Bella Coola to Berlin [is] a documentary by local filmmaker Barbara Hager, [which] retells the story of Fillip Jacobsen, a Norwegian artifact collector who in 1885 took a group of Aboriginal dancers to perform at the Hagenbeck Zoo in Hamburg, Germany. Admission is by donation.

I saw this movie in 2006 when it first came out – it’s brilliant, thought-provoking, and absolutely worth seeing.

See this 2006 CBC article on further background.
